What is Graffiti?
Graffiti is defined as writing, drawing, or applying symbols to any surface without the consent of the property owner, authorized owner, or designate.

- Parks and playgrounds
- Utility boxes
- Bridges and overpasses
- Public transit vehicles
- Canada Post mailboxes
- Freight trains
- Disgrace to our city
- Increased taxes to fund cleanup programs
- Decreased local property values
- Heightened fear of crime in the community
- Decline in local economy causing small businesses to close
- Graffiti gives the impression that no one cares about the overall state of the community
Graffiti is Vandalism
Graffiti is an act of vandalism that can cause financial burden for property owners, businesses, and taxpayers. It is a crime, like stealing, because it steals the property owner's right to have their own property look clean and nice. An individual caught writing graffiti will be charged under the Criminal Code with mischief. This can lead to fine and even imprisonment.
